Do I really need to get vaccinated prior to traveling abroad?
It’s time to go play, and we know you’re so excited.
You’ve spent countless hours researching your dream destination, and your eyes are a little foggy from looking at all the beautiful pictures online while imagining how everything is going to look when you get there. Your airline tickets are purchased and have been displayed on your pin board for months. Your passport finally arrived, but you’re not real happy about the way your picture looks and you just returned home from buying an entire new wardrobe that’s going to be perfect for your upcoming trip.
Looks like you’ve covered all your bases, crossed every t and dotted all the i’s. Now there’s nothing left to do except count down the days, right?

Getting our travel vaccinations is one of the last things we think about before we travel, but it is one of the most important steps.
I recently sat down with Edward Lister who is not only an extremely nice guy and world traveler, but he’s also an expert in the field of travel medicine.
Here’s a few of the questions that Edward answers for us:
- How does a person find out what vaccinations are required, and does every destination require vaccinations?
- How far in advance should a person start receiving vaccinations prior to their departure?
- Can your family doctor provide the vaccinations, or should you go somewhere else?
- Will one’s private medical insurance cover the costs of the vaccinations?
- What are the risks when a person chooses not to get vaccinated?
